At St Joseph’s Primary School, we recognise the uniqueness of each individual and the importance of their lifelong growth in their relationship with Christ.

We recognise the responsibility of meeting the educational needs of all students. We strive to provide equity and access to education in an inclusive environment. We encourage a collaborative approach with parents and the wider community, in striving to meet all learning needs in accordance with the principles of the Disability Discrimination Act (1992) and the Disability Standards for Education (2005).

AIMS

We aim to assist students to become discerning, self-disciplined and contributing members of society and encourage the pursuit of excellence in accordance with each students' gifts and capabilities.

St Joseph’s Primary School aims to provide an education, which is accessible and equitable to all children through:

  • Nurturing the self-esteem of all children
  • Developing teaching programs that are inclusive of all children and that address the practices of curriculum differentiation
  • Providing support programs for children with additional needs
  • Regularly reviewing the progress of children with additional needs
  • Providing training and professional development for teachers and Learning Support Assistants
  • Involving parents in the placement and programming decisions of their children
  • Seeking advice and support from outside professional agencies when necessary
  • Creating a school environment that celebrates diversity and provides appropriate programs for students with additional needs. 

IMPLEMENTATION

St Joseph’s Primary School supports students with additional needs by:

  • Identifying students with additional needs in all classes and implementing programs and strategies to enhance their learning
  • Distributing school funds supporting students with additional needs equitably
  • Ensuring effective communication between all stakeholders
  • Providing opportunities for those who specific talents to attend the G&T workshops (subject to availability)
  • Providing support to staff through a Learning Support Teacher and opportunities for staff participation in professional development
  • Involving parents in planning and program decisions
  • Providing access to the Student Support Unit and Counsellors for support when required
  • Preparing appropriate system and government funding
  • Preparing individual plans for students who meet the criteria for inclusion in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD)
  • Establishing assessment and reporting procedures for students with additional needs (including the preparation and review of Personalised Learning Plans).
